What durx is...
By definition, DURX is an acronym for four forms of cycling/biking: Downhill/Dual Slalom, Urban, Road, and X-Country.

The durx team is comprised of about 15 people that hail from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland ranging from 18 to 28 years old. Included in this group is our "Dirty Trois" all girls team that just joined us this past year. 2006 is our most competitive year yet with more races and benefit rides than ever before. Being a kind of pick-and-choose team, you can see us at such mountain bike events as the Mid-Atlantic Super Series, Cat Classic, Laurel Classic, various festivals, and adventure and endurance races. On the road catch us on the Red Rose series, MS charity rides, and smaller triathlons and road races. The point of Durx is not out to win a particular series but to do races in many disciplines and styles that appeal to the average rider looking for a good time with a competitive edge.

The "Think dirty!" slogan came from our original team name of Dirty Durx Racing. Racing in the early days included the downhill and dual slalom races held at such venues like Aaron's Yard and Scroto's Wood. Then lots of urban assault occurred in Penn State and Lewisburg. Then the first cross-country race durx held, is now the annual Thanksgiving Loop Race at Blue Marsh. Then our unmistakable turkey call was invented (see Bear Creek video) shortly after.

So if you hear a turkey call and see a blue and orange jersey with a big turkey on it, feel free to stop and talk to any of the durxians, sign up to be a member of the website, post on the forums, and browse the many pictures and videos. Any questions email aero@durx.org or prophetjz@durx.org!

    Head Durxians:
  • Aaron Meier: Webmaster, Charity/Road Captain (fell into that role)
  • JJ Moser: Graphics/Apparel Designer (freelance for hire)
  • Jon Zerbe: Mountain Captain (self-appointed), Team Mechanic (also self-appointed)
  • Ben Hess: Picks up all the loose ends and frays them
  • Bryan Meier: Volunteer Coach
  • Matt Varone: Is a Pony, 'nough said.
  • Amber Gregory & Danielle Shetler: Co-captains (appointed by men) of Dirty Trois
  • President? Team Captain? Head honcho? DON'T NEED ONE

Kick off with Cascade Classic

Durx/Spokes/Cannondale/WVU Cycling had another good representation at the former Cat. Jason won (outlasted) Expert Senior 2, Jon won Sport Singlespeed, Pony got 6th in Sport, and Matt McKinney got 2nd in Beginner - Although not a true durxian, we still had someone we knew there to sandbag. Another good cabin weekend as well. Turns out it's harder to fry chickens than turkeys.

Amber G sweeps WVU collegiate race
Posted by: ProphetJZ

Amber killed the collegiate race this weekend, winning the Women's B category in Short Track, Downhill (thanks to a loaner Prophet MX), and Dual Slalom held at Wisp on Saturday, and then going on to win the Cross Country and most likely the Time Trail held Sunday at Big Bear. When reached for comment she said, "there wasn't much competition, but now I think I have to upgrade to A." Can you say nationals?

Wilderness 101: a first look
Posted by: Ben

"We just mountain biked a hundred and one miles."

In a well organized and well paced team debut, the durx contingent of Jason, Jon, Aaron, and Ben had a respectable day out at the 101. Nothing broke and everybody had a good time. All riders broke their distance records and reached a couple performance thresholds along the way. It was an Epic Ride.

"D" is for Downhill
Posted by: ProphetJZ

Dr. Schmidt and I (Zerbe) went to Wisp this weekend for the season's first DH race. With 2 downhills (combined time) and a dual slalom, it was as tiring as a weekend of xc racing, if not more. Zerbe took 2nd in Sport Senior downhill and Andrew 15th. Both of us crashed on the first round of dual slalom. I've never seen more air on a slalom...

Jason Zerbe takes 2nd at Fair Hill
Posted by: ProphetJZ

Despite one of the biggest turnouts durx has faced in the MASS series, Jason went out in fine fashion to put him high up in the standings early. Other riders were Ben, Aaron, Jon, and Pony in the sport class, Danielle in Sport Women, and JJ the lone beginner. Not a bad MASS debut!
