Kick off with Cascade Classic
Durx/Spokes/Cannondale/WVU Cycling had another good representation at the former Cat. Jason won (outlasted) Expert Senior 2, Jon won Sport Singlespeed, Pony got 6th in Sport, and Matt McKinney got 2nd in Beginner - Although not a true durxian, we still had someone we knew there to sandbag. Another good cabin weekend as well. Turns out it's harder to fry chickens than turkeys.

Amber G sweeps WVU collegiate race
Amber killed the collegiate race this weekend, winning the Women's B category in Short Track, Downhill (thanks to a loaner Prophet MX), and Dual Slalom held at Wisp on Saturday, and then going on to win the Cross Country and most likely the Time Trail held Sunday at Big Bear. When reached for comment she said, "there wasn't much competition, but now I think I have to upgrade to A." Can you say nationals?

Wilderness 101: a first look
"We just mountain biked a hundred and one miles." In a well organized and well paced team debut, the durx contingent of Jason, Jon, Aaron, and Ben had a respectable day out at the 101. Nothing broke and everybody had a good time. All riders broke their distance records and reached a couple performance thresholds along the way. It was an Epic Ride.

"D" is for Downhill
Dr. Schmidt and I (Zerbe) went to Wisp this weekend for the season's first DH race. With 2 downhills (combined time) and a dual slalom, it was as tiring as a weekend of xc racing, if not more. Zerbe took 2nd in Sport Senior downhill and Andrew 15th. Both of us crashed on the first round of dual slalom. I've never seen more air on a slalom...

Jason Zerbe takes 2nd at Fair Hill
Despite one of the biggest turnouts durx has faced in the MASS series, Jason went out in fine fashion to put him high up in the standings early. Other riders were Ben, Aaron, Jon, and Pony in the sport class, Danielle in Sport Women, and JJ the lone beginner. Not a bad MASS debut!

Apologies to all who find this news shocking, surprising, or appalling, but your dad beat your mom soundly in the woods of marysville. In a well attended Team Relay JBMountainBikes.com shows up big with an unprecedented two teams. All returning durx riders showed their stuff and three new riders were afforded the opportunity to get in on the fun. Everyone raced hard and heard the funk. Each member of durx will receive a year supply of Musselman brand apple-butter and a custom painted textured brown Cannondale tandem.

New Level of Cardboard Classic Success for Team Durx
Part of this year's durx cardboard classic sled entry actually crosses finish line "unaided". This enhanced level of success over last year's sled has been attributed to ultra slick runners and fast conditions. In-stability issues and tracking errors however, have been placed firmly on the shoulders of our sled dogs.

DURX Finishes 2nd at 24hr Race
Durx's first ever appearance at the Seven Springs 24 hour Champion Challenge could not have gone better. Aaron, Ben, Jason, Matt, and Danielle completed 16 12.4 mile laps in 24 hours giving them a podium finish. JJ and Carrie were a big help with keeping the riders fed and making sure they made it to the transition tent on time. As night fell the urge to sleep started to take over and with only about 2-4 hours of sleep each, team DURX made it through the night without any mishaps, despite the pit crew sleeping through the night. Watching the sun rise while out on the trail gave new life to the team and they were able to clinch 2nd place walking away with some pretty sweet sweatshirts. Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion to this years MASS series.

DURX 9th in MASS Team Standings
After excellent performances at Marysville and Fair Hill, durx.org now sits in 9th place in the Mid-Atlantic Super Series, 343 points behind 8th place CTR/Kenda. Durx's mountain bike heavy schedule is beginning to pay off as Aaron Meier, Jason and Jon Zerbe are consistently placing top ten in the Sport class, Jon now has three fourth places. Ben "steam-engine of positive energy" Hess leads the beginner class in the series due to constant dedication to racing when not in Colorado. Matt "Pony" Varone is in 2nd, 77 pts behind Ben. The Dirty Trois girls are needed to be sorted out with some past races and series registration not yet counting towards Durx's points total, but Danielle "Shelter-me" Shetler now has three 2nd place finishes in Beginner Women 1, and Ambaa Gregory with three 4th place finishes. Zerbe's Weekend
Friday night's boozing til 2 am paid off for Jon Zerbe as he raced for Bloomsburg at the Bucknell collegiate road race. A quick vomit before the 27 mile race, got him pumped up, screaming "puke and rally" in the parking lot. A rough course will a lot of wrecks and flats throughout the 3 laps of the D class race finished him 4 out of 57! Future durxians finishes: Andrew Schmidt 15 out of 40 in B (10th in Crit), Gary Mikulski 19th in D (22nd in crit), Jenn "Thorpe" Owens 8 of 14 in Women's Intro. Jake Stamey and Jared Fenstermacher (flatted in the road race) finished 8th and 11th respectively in sunday's crit in the streets of Bucknell's campus. Jon Zerbe left the delayed Bucknell crit, to start in the last of the Lehigh Wheelman practice crits along with Jason Zerbe, doing their share of pulling the field and still finishing 4th (Jason) and 5th. All on less than 3 hours of sleep on Saturday night as well!

The Zerbe's finish together at Wellsboro's Laurel Classic
Jon Zerbe finishes 11th while Jason Zerbe finishes 40 secs later in 12th with time a few minutes under 2 1/2 hours on a 22 mile course. The Laural Classic consisted of long fire road climbs, starting with a 3 miler, with flat/rolly sections with mud and stream crossings, and long whole-mountain technical downhills with the short and steep "Stinger" downhill that ate nearly everyone. Of course the Zerbe's love technical downhills and made up for almost all of their position gain with gravity, despite Jon blasting right under a trail marker (too fast) and having to climb back up a hill costing a load of time or otherwise face disqualification. All's fair I guess. Find results here: http://www.twistedspokes.org/2006MTBResults.htm Also the mysterious Ben Hess somehow moved to Canton and finished 15th? Maybe you should have changed you name to Benedict Arnold!

Check out this article from the Christmas Press news wire
(CP)Christmas Press 12/22 North Pole Reindeer Training Grounds: Early reports have been confirmed that Santa’s team is in sleigh-ready condition. Team veterans Comet and Blitzen have been quoted as stating that this year’s team is “…one of the best yet.” “In the off-season we have been doing a lot of long flights, intervals, and have been hitting the sleigh master and the elliptical flying machines with some real commitment.” claims number three deer Donner. The deer have really been making this year’s flight into a personal challenge to improve upon last year’s. “You train all year long for one night, you pull hard, and you hope for the best...” says Head Coach Santa Clause “…and I really couldn't be more proud of these deer.” Look for a real break-away performance from ace Rudolf this year, as he has been experimenting with some new techniques in the wind tunnel and on his flight trainer to improve aerodynamics and galloping efficiency. The pressure is always high on this point-deer, and as usual Clause has put a no-media-restriction on Rudolf’s wing of the Training Grounds and he subsequently declined all interviews. The suspense is really mounting surrounding the big flight night and all signs point to it being a huge success. This closing statement from Coach Clause really sums it all up “… Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Snow Ride 1 Results
The first snow ride of the season, not for the fair at skill I shall remind you, was a success. The hour started off with Ben, Jon, & Amber rendez-vous-ing in the Blue Marsh Parking lot, from there it went all down hill. After a short lesson on the oxidization of the damn dam water, the three brave souls attempted to peddle in 8 inches of snow! In my professional opinion I believe Jon was the most successful. After a few spills and walking the bikes more than riding them we reached the top of the snow laden mountain. From there we proceeded to break the law and bike on the only bikeable part of our day, the damn dam, "You can take as many dam(n) pictures as you'd like". This was followed by the adventurous three being yelled at by a large overgrown park ranger who obviously liked donuts too much, he was questioning our ability to read, signs that is. After forging a new path in the snow covered wilderness, the three returned to their point of commencement but their day was not done yet, oh no. the ever adventurous jon and ben then proceeded to climb the biggest mountain in blue marsh in all that snow. When they reached the top, like wildmen they peddled madly down the frosty peak only to arrive safe and sound back at the bottom to sounds of applause from Amber. It was a good day.

Durx Turkey Weekend Successful
Happy B-day Ambaa! The black forest cake was excellent along with everyone having drinks they never had before due to my restocking of $180 worth of liquor. Saturday's race turned into and individual race once team "queers with more beers" forfeited. Zerbe (me) came in first with Aero not too far behind. Dispite of getting lost Ben made a respectable showing. Pony had a bad day but finished it out with Amber hot on his tail and showing that she is capable of hanging with the guys. Cheap eats and Icy Tea ensued with intense football following after with Pony as MVP with 2 picks and numerous TD's and Zerbe having best ankle breaking play of the day, also Aero's arm showing its best consistency yet. RBF at the Silo rounded the night down with high points and low. If you werent there, the following references are oblivious to you: death grasps on drumsticks, haggling for playlists, Shawn Koening, sleeping in the girl's room, car alarms and more car alarms, and I want my girlfriend to pick me up. Sunday afternoon team "less gear more beers" saddled up on the cannondales and hit the jump trail at Mt. Penn a billion times. I'm sore, so might you be (especially if Amber or Buddy tackled you) and all I can say is I can't wait to do it all over again next year...

Forums are now up and working a real preliminary way. They are working though, so lets start using them! You need to sign up for an account first (which you can get to through the 'sign in' link). Sorry to those who signed up before, I had to clear out those accounts, so just do it again. Bonus: all who sign up get a super sweet user@durx.org email account!

Durx Resurrection
The end was nigh, but out of the ashes arose a new beginning. We aren't talking about any old phoenix rising here, this is the rebirth of durx and their mighty... turkey! Welcome to the new site, finally, an officially hosted one that will be up 24/7. As with most (re)births, it takes a little while to clean out the gunk and get up and running, so there are bound to be some problems in the beginning. Just hang on and enjoy the ride!
